Making a Gingerbread Plan

Today the class made a plan for their gingerbread house. They had to sketch a design and decide what supplies they will need to create their house. We then started a free writing activity creating a story around the house. Stay tuned for some pretty cool houses later this week!

Sharing Writing and Presenting

On Friday students had the chance to read all of the wonderful persuasive essays they all worked on for the past few weeks. They also could present their website, see saw, or poster to the class. I was very impressed with their research and their presentations!

I have to share our family’s latest member. Very exciting weekend at our house!

It is starting to click!  Keep practicing those basic math facts.

Candy Coated Rock Cycle ๐ŸŒ‹๐Ÿฌ

Today we reviewed the Rock Cycle by using Starburst candy to help model it. First we broke up the candy into “sediments”. Then the sediments came together to form a sedimentary rock. We then applied heat and pressure to make a metamorphic rock. Finally we melted the metamorphic to “magma” which cooled into an igneous rock. It was a fun way to practice the cycle!

Weather Disasters ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒ‹

Today we imagined our school was impacted by a hurricane!  We lost power and had to work with flashlights so we did some research to learn more about hurricanes and how to be prepared.

In science we did a lesson on the different types of volcanoes. The class had fun analyzing the “lava”.

Electrical Simulations

We have been studying electricity in science and today we looked at simulations online trying to create two different simulations. One simulation with light as the output and another with sound as the output.

Each Kindness

Our Concord book of the month is a good one- Each Kindness. Today students listened to the book and then brainstormed ways they can show kindness- at home, school, anywhere!

The Camo Crew

Too bad we are not learning about camouflage today. Can see you see them?

Science- Building more Systems

We were lucky to get a little more sun today during science. We have been trying to solve the problem why the fictional town “Ergstown” has been having blackouts. So we are learning about different systems. Today we used the same materials as the fan experiment but made a light and a buzzer operate.

Multiplying and Stem

In math we did some hands on strategies to help with 2 digit multiplication. We used both base ten models and arrays to help us with multiplication. We also wrapped up this rotation of math stations. Students loved the stem boxes in this week’s rotation. They may pop up on your child’s see saw videos.

Cahokia Mounds

We had a fun day at Cahokia Mounds!  I was so impressed with our class and their great behavior. We even got some compliments from other museum guests how well behaved our class was in the movie. We also lucked out on the weather- no rain and it wasn’t hot! I’m still not sure how many steps to the top. Kids were telling me they counted 154, 160, 159- we never could agree on it but we all agreed it sure was easier going down!
