Presenting and Celebrating!

Today the class gave presentations sharing their ecosystems with the class. The audience took notes in what each group had in their ecosystem. They did a great job!  We also wrapped up our narrative fiction writing unit and celebrated by sharing our writing.

Building a Central Interpretation in Reading

Today was picture day and they sure clean up nice!  In reading we worked on building a central interpretation. Students worked with partners brainstorming themes that are important to kids that authors often write about. We then looked through our first read aloud for examples of these.

Ecosystems

We added to our ecosystems today making a food web and food chains that can be found there. Students will present on Thursday. Don't forget tomorrow is picture day!

Math Practice

Today we used a strategy called repeated subtraction to see the relationship between division and subtraction. We are also keeping a graph in our leadership binders of our multiplication progress. Students should continue to practice their math facts!

Reading and Ecosystems

Today we analyzed our independent books searching for debatable ideas. Students then explained what both sides to the debate could be. 
Minecraft Edu is a hit in here!  Today we made a plan for each group's ecosystem before they started to build.

Gaming in Science

Today in science students created ecosystems using the education version of Minecraft. They will present to the class next week. 
We also practiced our debating skills debating to prompt a book discussion.

Super Sorters

In spelling we practiced sorting our words. Each spelling list has a pattern that will help students learn their words and hopefully carry over to other words not on their list that follow the pattern.

Subtraction and Addition

Today we practiced subtracting and checking our work with addition. 

Make sure to check your email as well. Our field trip has changed to Thursday due to the storm coming Friday.

Ecosystems and Math Stations

We started new math stations this week. We continue to use the Aleks math program on devices, and we have also added in problem solving (shopping for a Mizzou party) and graphing. We finished our ecosystem projects today and they turned out great!

Ecosystems and Estimating

In science we are working on an ecosystem project. Students are drawing an ecosystem and then adding in a food chain with producers, consumers, and decomposers. In math we practiced estimating sums and differences by rounding.

Buddies that like to Boogie

Today we met our first grade buddies from Mrs. Boyd's class. It was fun for many of our fourth graders to see their former teacher!  The students all shared what they have been working on in writing and then we had a very fun brain break complete with break dancers and a conga line!

Story Arcs and Camouflage

Today we wrote story arcs for our narrative fiction stories. This is a plan for writing to help when we start our scenes tomorrow. We are also beginning to learn about animal adaptations. We went outside and did a camouflage activity on this nice day!  Don't forget we have a math test tomorrow.
