Measuring Angles

We learned to use protractors today to measure angles. Many students had been introduced to protractors on Aleks but we found that using the real thing is a bit more challenging. We did the homework in class today since most students do not own protractors.

Underground Railroad

We played an interactive game from National Geographic on the Underground Railroad. We started on a plantation in Maryland and made our escape. We are moving to Canada and have just made it to Syracuse. Tomorrow we will finish and see if we can make it all the way to freedom!

Stepping in Line

We learned all about lines today and the class never got out of line!  We learned about parallel, perpendicular, and intersecting.

Geometry

We started geometry today.  Today we started by drawing points, lines, and rays. Tomorrow we will take what we have learned and begin to look at both parallel and perpendicular lines.

Volleyball Game

Today we were able to watch four classmates play in a staff vs student volleyball game. The fourth graders were a great team!

Using sensory details in writing

Today in writing we talked about how poets use their senses to describe their world and write poems.  We went outside for writing and used our senses to inspire some amazing writing!

Perimeter Scavenger Hunt

Today we started to learn about perimeter. We had a little scavenger hunt in the classroom looking for different items of different perimeters. Tomorrow- finding area!

Reminder!

Tomorrow is the chapter 11-12 math test. This test will focus on both customary and metric measurement.  Students received a study guide yesterday.  Practice conversions and measuring in both inches and centimeters. 

We were also so happy to have Benjamin back today!

Leader in Me Assembly

We had our quarterly assembly to focus on the 7 Habits. We were proud of our speaker leader Austin and the students were able to interact with students in other grades as well.

Math Stations

This week in our math stations we continue to work on pioneer topics. This week it is how much you can take in your wagon on the Oregon Trail. We are also working with a deck of cards and the distributive property and continuing with Aleks.

Oregon Trail Blazers

The green team is in the lead!  We have had to decide between floating and fording across rivers which has slowed down some teams. The teams have also had to purchase more food- they are big eaters!
