Today we practiced multiplying fractions. Students need to remember to always put their answers into simplest form. Tomorrow they will come home with a study guide for chapter 9.

We have split the class into patriots and loyalists!  On Friday they will participate in a debate using all of their notes from the reading/writing unit.

Today the fourth graders were able to participate in Ability Awareness Day. They learned a lot today and were very attentive in every session. Ask your fourth grader what they learned!

Today we worked on adding mixed numbers in math. We started by converting the mixed numbers to improper fractions and then after adding we converted back to a mixed number. Then of course we simplified!

In reading we are starting to look at different perspectives of different authors. Today we focused on different perspectives related to the Boston Massacre. Patriots and the Redcoats had quite different views!
We continue to work with fractions in math. This week we have added and subtracted fraction. The simplifying has been the most challenging part.

We practiced measuring matter today by rotating through different stations finding both mass and volume.

Don't forget we have a chapter 8 math test tomorrow. All students have a study guide and we played a fun review game in class today to get ready for the test.

Today was the final Lewis and Clark lesson with Mrs. Jardon. They learned all about the return of the expedition and the lives of everyone involved after the expedition. We finished with some snacks and bingo!

In writing we have started writing chapter 1 in our informational books. Chapter 1 is All About the Causes of the Revolutionary War. Many shared their beginnings with the class and so far they look great!

In may we are working on reducing fractions to simplest form. We are looking for the GCF - greatest common factor.  I was impressed with the class doing this today!  They know their factors. 
 We also used a scoring guide to evaluate writing today. Each student set a goal to focus on for our informational piece.

Reading about American Revolution

In reading we are reading about the causes of the American Revolution. Students are looking at the text structure and starting to take notes based on the structure.

Westward Expansion!
Today we learned more about the Louisiana Purchase and the fabulous Mrs. Jardon was here to share her knowledge!  Today the focus was the purchase of the land. Next week we will focus more on Lewis and Clark.

Happy New Year!  We had a great first day back from Winter Break. We spent some time working on goal setting and resolutions for the new year.  We also started our first fraction chapter.  Today we looked at divisibility rules and multiples. Below I have included the chart we used in class.
