Rounding and Math Stations

Today we reviewed concepts for tomorrow's math test. Rounding is a challenging area we focused on. Students are also enjoying the math stations this week. 

I sent an email earlier saying 2 cups flour and 2 salt. My mistake- it is 2 flour and 1 cup salt for tomorrow. Sorry!

Story Arcs in Writing

Today we created story arcs in writing. A story arc is a plan for writing. This helps the students to plan out their story with the conflict rising to a climax and a resolution. It keeps the writers on the topic and helps them keep a focus. 

Writing Numbers Three Ways

We have been focusing on place value in math. Today we worked on ordering numbers from greatest to least and least to greatest. We also reviewed writing numbers three different ways- standard, expanded, and word form. We will have a test on Friday over all of this. 

Writer's Notebook Decorating

Today we had a scrapbooking party during writing time. Students decorated their writer's notebooks to represent themselves. These fancy covers can also serve as inspiration if they ever struggle coming up with writing ideas. Next week we will begin writing in these notebooks for homework. 

Building Bridges

Today we did a cooperative group activity in which students made bridges with popsicle sticks and tape. We then stacked books on the bridges to see how many they could hold. We had some great group work and different strategies in each group. The winning team could stack 20 books!

Totality Awesome Day!

What a gift to be a teacher for a special day like today!  I wish I would have thought ahead to video the excitement when we were outdoors. The cheers and fireworks in the distance made the perfect soundtrack for our afternoon outside. It sure was Totality Awesome!!

Woo Hoo we finished day 2!

We had another great day today. We wrote a class mission statement, started a strength finder activity, and had a Welcome Back assembly. 

We also spent some time talking about the eclipse on Monday. The students are excited, but we also have some that are a bit nervous as well. We talked about safety today but we will go into more depth Monday morning as well.

Wow!  What a great bunch of kiddos we have in fourth grade this year. We had so much fun learning routines and getting to know each other. Thanks am looking forward to a great year with your children!  Here is a peek into our fun first day.
