Rounding Roundup

Today we used place value to round in math. We also have a study guide for chapter 1 coming home today. Test Friday! 

Classifying Animals

In science we talked about how to classify animals. We looked at both vertebrates and invertebrates. Students worked in groups to classify different animal cards. 

Writing Goals

Today we looked at a writing sample from each student and used a scoring guide to self evaluate. Students used that scoring guide to set a reading goal. 

Reading and Writing Multi-Digit Numbers

Today we looked at different ways to read and write numbers. We talked about standard form, expanded form, and word form. We also looked at the different periods up to millions.

We're on a Mission!

Today we wrote our class mission statement. Students started individually answering questions and then we brought those answers to the group. Students then narrowed their answers down to some common themes and wrote the mission.   We also did a fun team building activity building bridges with just Popsicle sticks and tape. Some bridges could hold 20 books!

Notebooks and Math Workshop

We had a lot of creativity going on in here today!  Students decorated their writer's notebooks today and all notebooks are coming home tonight for their first night of writing homework. We also had our first day of math stations. Two groups were working on the beginning of the year Aleks pretest while the rest started a problem solving station with book orders or a math game. We will rotate through all stations this week so students will get used to the rotations and hopefully everyone will finish their initial Aleks knowledge check. 

We are 100% Smart!

Each student did a self survey looking at their own personal strengths. We learned that we all have special talents and abilities. Some of us are art smart, while others excel at people skills. We learned a lot about each other!

Super Second Day!

We had another great day!  We spent some time building up stamina in reading. After checking out our classroom library, we got started reading. This class got nice and comfy to read and made great choices on their books.  We also had our first assembly of the year. This class had great behavior. I was very proud!  Have a good weekend!

Great First Day!

We had a great first day of fourth grade!  We spent some time getting to know each other and learned about our classroom. We had a lot of fun with a group activity stacking cups- without using their hands. I am looking forward to seeing this great class again tomorrow!
