Adding Mixed Numbers

Today we started to add mixed numbers. We also decomposed the numbers using the associative property. 

We also had a special show and tell today. We were able to meet Darby!

Online Research

We have been doing some online research for our Lewis and Clark reports. Finding a reputable source online can be a challenge.  Today I showed the class a website that looked very real. This shows that you can't trust everything online. Have them show you at home!

Informational Text Structure

This week we are looking at text structure in reading. Each day we will look at different passages looking for keywords/clues to determine the structure of the text. We have looked at descriptive as well as order and sequence this week.

Science Stations

Today we started science stations reviewing everything we have learned about matter over the past few weeks. We looked at properties of matter, mixtures, finding the volume of classroom items, and looking at the density of items. We will finish up tomorrow. 

Fraction Review

We have a math test this Friday over fractions. Today we started to work on a study guide with a partner. We will continue our review tomorrow as a class. 

Solutions Lab

We are learning about the difference between mixtures and solutions. Today we worked on a virtual lab testing different solutions. 

Muffins With Mom

We had many moms and friends join us this morning for Muffins with Mom. The students were excited to share some muffins and writing with their moms. 

Publishing Persuasives

Today students worked hard publishing their persuasive writing. They are using Google Docs and they can access their work at home and at school.  Have your child share their writing with you tonight!  Don't forget Muffins with Mom tomorrow at 7:45. Yearbook pics are also tomorrow for all groups (scouts, girls on the run, etc.)

Sharing Writing with Buddies

Today we met with our buddies from Mrs. Boyd's first grade.  They just finished writing an opinion piece so both classes were excited to share their latest opinion writing. 

We are also working hard on finishing our persuasive essays. Many of the students asked if I would put our charts we are using in class on the blog.  For their writing tonight students can work on their essay in google drive instead of writing in their writer's notebooks. 

Context Clues and Fractions

Today we continued to learn different strategies to determine the meaning of unknown words. We practiced as a class and in our reading groups. We also spent time in math trying it find common denominators in math. Keep practicing the multiplication facts- it helps when looking for common multiples!

Fraction Matchin'

Today we started working with fractions in math. We talked about numerators, denominators, and equivalent fractions. We also learned a handy trick to see if fractions are equivalent. Ask your fourth grader about this trick!
