We Would Like to Thank the Academy..

Today we practiced oral reading with a reader's theater of Robbie and the Thanksgiving Spirit.  This is a version of the favorite story A Christmas Carol with a Thanksgiving Twist.  This class had great expression and kept going even with the interruption of the phone ringing and people walking in our room.  Now that is talent!

Turtlehead Multiplication

Today we learned about 2 by 2 digit multiplication.  One method that is helpful is the Turtlehead Method.  The following video demonstrates.

You light up my life....

Today we tried to make series circuits in class and succeeded!  Attempts at parallel circuits were a bit challenging so we will attempt again. We had a lot of great teamwork in science today!

Character Assembly

Today we had a character assembly and talked about the next habit which is Think Win-Win (everyone can win). The girls from Girls on the Run were also recognized for all of their goal setting and putting First Things First. 

Determining Importance

Today students worked with partners to determine the importance in a text. They then looked for supporting details.

These two girls are rockstars!  Up early to run a 5K today with Girls on the Run!

Celebrating Great Writing

Today we had a celebration after all the hard work of writing narrative fiction. We spent some time reading each other's pieces and then had a popcorn party!

Final day of Lewis and Clark

Today we wrapped up our studies of Lewis and Clark with some popcorn similar to the corn the Native Americans grew, avocado which tastes like a cactus, and some goldfish crackers like the fish the Corps of Discovery ate. We also played a little Lewis and Clark bingo and wrote on birch bark.

Today we planted bulbs with our first grade buddies. In the spring our school garden will have beautiful flowers!

Louisiana Purchase

Today we learned about the Louisiana Purchase. We bought the land from France for the bargain price of $15,000,000 which was 3 cents an acre! Students also learned about Thomas Jefferson. 

Lewis and Clark

Today former Truman teacher, Marge Jardon, came to teach us about Lewis and Clark. Mrs. Jardon is an expert on this topic and will be presenting all week. Today we learned about the Native Americans along their journey and especially Sacajawea.
